The hymn ‘Be Thou My Vision’ is a prayer that we may accept Christ as our pattern, our hero, our ideal.

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart…..
Be Thou my best thought in the day and the night,
Both Waking and sleeping, Thy presence my light.

As a church we have set a vision to see 50 people worshipping together on a Sunday at this Church. This vision was set a little time back and over time just like with physical vision, this kind of vision could begin to deteriorate if we were to lose focus and forget what we are reaching for. However the song states we need God in our thoughts all the time and if we have him in our thoughts and the vision not far behind then we will remain focused.

The vision we have set as a church, requires all of us to seek to do whatever we are able to bring people into knowing Jesus as Lord. It might even just start with an invitation to a service or special event. We have to remember that some of the last words that Jesus gave to his disciples were to, “go and make followers of all people in the world’ (Mathew 28: 19) and these words are still relevant today.

Let us keep working towards the goal and keep our focus on the vision. If we do, then at the end of the year we will be able to celebrate together what has been achieved through the power of God and a church with vision. As the song also says,

High king of Heaven, Thou Heaven’s bright Sun,
O grant me its joy after victory is won!
Great Heart of my won heart, whatever befall,
Still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all!
