Captains Log June 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends,

This month sees the start of Feast Week which is the highlight of the village calendar in Histon and Impington for many people.  The Feast Committee do a tremendous job in arranging a variety of events for all ages to bring the community together.  It is
without doubt a great advert for village life.  As a church we too are
delighted that Kettering Salvation Army Band are able to share in the celebrations by taking part in the Feast Parade.

The sense of community the way Feast Week is presented is one that we as a church can learn from.  The early Christian church was built around the concept of community as people often gathered together in
peoples’ homes for fellowship and worship.  (Please see Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 4:32-37).

It was also a delight at the start of this month to share in a united service with the other churches.  What encouraged us was the way we were all united together in worship and fellowship.  It reminds us that we are not a remote outpost but part of a number of Christian churches in our villages.  We were a community of Christians gathered together, irrespective of which particular denomination someone belonged to.

The issue of what kind of community we are is important because that is ultimately what will draw people into any church fellowship.  It is the
people that are the church, not the facilities that we have or the
programmes that are run.  It is the people that determine what kind of Christian community we are whether at the church building or wherever  we find ourselves.    Let us always seek to be people that others experience the love of God very much at the heart of our lives.  May people find acceptance and understanding, patience and forgiveness, care and compassion when they meet us.    Let us engage too with the
community we are involved in on a daily basis so that God’s love is shown wherever we go.

We hope that you have a great time over Feast Week.  Enjoy the events and let us be thankful to God being part of His community and the great villages of Histon and Impington that we live in.

 May God bless you.
