I’ve recently been watching the programme on Channel Four, ‘The Games’. Ten celebrities take part in different sports to see who will come out the best.

From the very start it was obvious that there were some celebrities that would do far better than the others. But each of the celebrities had a goal to reach and gave their best to reach their goal.

Although some struggled to win any of the events, there is one good thing that happens. If the celebrity achieves their personal best in an event on the actual night of competition they receive a point. This means even if they receive no points for where they finished in the event, they could still receive a point if they have achieved their personal best.

God created each one of us uniquely which means we are all blessed with different gifts and abilities. As it says in the Bible, “… each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.” (1 Corinthians 7:7) This helps to make our world an interesting place to live in. All that God asks us is to do our best in all that He leads us to do. It may be that we do not think that we have done the task very well, but God will bless us if we have given it our all which is the best that we can do. What matters for us is not what place we cross the finish line in life, but like ‘The Games’, that we finish and strive to do it with a personal best effort.

By seeking God’s guidance and giving our best, we can in the words of American Pastor Joel Osteen “discover the champion within ourselves,”
