Captain’s Log April 2006 PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends,

Many of you will know that I am a big fan of American football. The other day I was reading an interview by one of the top players in the sport, Tom Brady. This man has led his team to 3 Super Bowl championships in 4 years and he is still only 28 years old!

Yet the report of the interview said that “With all of Brady's fame and career accomplishments, he told 60 Minutes: "Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there's something greater out there for me? I mean, maybe a lot of people would say, 'Hey man, this is what is. I reached my goal, my dream, my life.' Me, I think, … it's got to be more than this. I mean this isn't, this can't be, what it's all cracked up to be." "What's the answer?" asked interviewer Steve Kroft. "I wish I knew," Brady replied. "I wish I knew." (Interview with Steve Croft of 60 Minutes (11-6-05), www.cbsnews.com)

If ever there was an answer to that question, we need look no further than to the events of Easter. It is so much more than bunnies, holidays or chocolate eggs, it is the most important event for all of mankind. Easter is when we see just how much God loves us and how much all of us matter to Him and there is indeed much more to life than just what we see around us.

Easter is God’s love expressed through Jesus coming to this earth, dying on the Cross for our sins on that Good Friday and rising alive from the grave on that first Easter Sunday. Easter is how we come to realize God wants us to know His Son Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. If we make that commitment, we find that there is indeed so much more to life. We find the joy of forgiveness in Christ, a relationship with Jesus who is alive today and the amazing gift of eternal life. If you want to know life in all its fullness, then I urge you this Easter to accept Jesus as your Saviour!

May God bless you,

Paul Wood
Captain
